Swimming

I decided that I wanted to go swimming this morning, before work. So I got up at 5:45 so that I could arrive at the aquatic center at 6. My reasoning was that few people in the right mind would be willing to go swimming at such an ungodly hour, and that I could therefore get my own lane and swim unmolested.

But when I got there, there were already like 10 people, and it looked like there would be many more. Also there were only two lanes open. They were long (50 yard) lanes, but it would still be really annoying to pass/be passed all the time. So I went home.

I couldn't fall back asleep, so I decided to play violin for a while. Then I decided to go to work. Which is why I'm at work right now.

Road Rage

Today, like any other day, I drove home from work.

I got off 590 and onto Empire Blvd, when I saw the light, maybe 500 feet ahead, turn red. This is a reasonably long red light, so I lifted my foot off the gas pedal and continued at about 20 miles per hour. The speed limit was like 45, but there was no reason for me to accelerate to that speed, because I would have to hit the brakes at the light anyway, and I would just be wasting gas.

But then someone decided to pass me. This sort of thing happens a lot, actually. I don't understand why anyone would do such a thing, because he still has to stop for the red light. And it's not like the light will turn green any sooner for him. And simply being in front of me doesn't mean that he'll get to his destination much sooner; he'll maybe gain a 20-foot advantage, which at 40 mph is something like a third of a second (1mph = ~.5m/s, so 40 mph = ~ 20m/s = ~60 ft/s...).

Do you ever pass people to beat them to red lights? Quick survey.

Romance Novel?

One of the things that I have to do this week, while my boss is gone, is to generate and print a series of pictures. That's the most trivial assignment for the week. It takes a freakin' long time to print these, so I decided to read a book while waiting. I chose Catch-22 (Yes, I should have read that a long time ago.). It is a really funny book, and for some reason it inspired me to start up my romance novel again, which I had put on hold for a while.

That's all for now.

Hello, world

I decided to make a new blog. I just don't like Livejournal anymore. Also, I was inspired by Bruce's choice to switch.

Notice that I have departed from the whole Frank the Tank theme. That was so 10th grade. A couple months after I started using Frank the Tank, I found out that the original Frank the Tank was a frat boy from Old School. I was devastated, but I was too lazy to change it. But now that I switched to Blogspot, I have an opportunity to switch.

I chose "Used Car Purveyor", because "Used Car Salesman" and "Used Car Seller" were taken. Also it reflects my tendency to use more obscure words than necessary.

Okay, back to work.
